New figures show that people in the fishing industry are 40 times more likely to be killed at work, compared to other sectors of the economy.

The fatality rate in the general working population is 2.5 deaths per 100,000 workers while in fishing it's 92 per 100,000.

The Health and Safety Authority is launching a new awareness campaign aimed at reducing death and injuries in the fishing sector.

The HSA is urging skippers improve safety standards and take precautions to protect themselves and their crew.
