Five men have been arrested this morning in connection with the €21 million drug seizure in Limerick.
The men, aged 50, 46, 44, 41 and 35 years, were arrested for importing controlled drugs and are currently detained at Garda stations in Limerick.
€21 million worth of drugs, mainly cocaine, was discovered on a Maltese cargo ship docked in Foynes Port, Limerick on December 19th.
The 20,000-tonne vessel is believed to have been carrying grain, but officials also seized a “significant” volume of suspected drugs.
This is the second major cocaine seizure at sea this year, following the seizure of €157 million worth of the drug from the MV Matthew in September.
