A litter of puppies have been discovered by Gardaí in north Dublin in an abandoned car.

Finglas Gardaí and the District Detective Unit discovered five dogs in an abandoned car while conducting an operation in Finglas with the Fingal County Council to remove waste from the area.

The collie pups were rescued from a filthy abandoned car with no food, water, or proper ventilation on Tuesday.

"Finglas Gardaí and the District Detective Unit discovered five dogs in an abandoned car while conducting an operation in Finglas with the Fingal County Council to remove waste from the area," the Gardaí wrote on Twitter.

"The puppies have been transferred to the care of the DSPCA. Investigations are ongoing."

The animals are now under the care of the DSPCA. Gardai say they are carrying out an investigation to find the puppies' owners.

Separately, nine dogs were seized by gardaí and the DSPCA at a suspected breeding operation in South Dublin yesterday morning.

A joint search operation took place at a house in the Ballybrack area, where officials found eight Bulldogs and a Doberman.

All but one of the dogs had their ears cropped, which is an illegal procedure, while two of them were pregnant.

Similar dogs have been advertised online for prices in excess of €3,000 euro, according to the DSPCA.
