Five people have been seriously injured in a crash near Milltown, County Galway, including a child.

The three-car collision happened on the road between Tuam and Milltown at approximately 8:45am.

The occupant of one of the cars, a woman in her 30s, was airlifted to University Hospital Galway.

Two men in their 30s, a woman in her 30s and a child were in the other cars and were all brought by ambulance to UHG.

The road remains closed for a technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
