Billionaire Michael Bloomberg joins race to become the next US president
The former Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg has announced a bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
It follows weeks of speculation that the billionaire would run for president.
On twitter this afternoon, he said he was “running for president to defeat Donald Trump and rebuild America.”
County Armagh man charged over discovery of 39 bodies in Essex truck
A man from County Armagh has been charged with human trafficking offences in connection with the discovery of 39 bodies in a refrigerated truck in the UK last month.
23-year-old Christopher Kennedy from Corkley Road in Darkley was arrested in Buckinghamshire on Friday.
This morning, Essex Police said he would be charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of people with a view to exploitation and conspiracy to facilitate the commission of a breach of UK immigration law.
Dublin Chamber warns against strict new laws on e-scooters
The Dublin Chamber of Commerce is warning against the introduction of overly restrictive regulations on e-scooters.
It comes as Dublin City Council calls for e-scooter users to be forced to sit a test, get tax and insurance and wear protective clothing.
The opposing views are contained in submissions both bodies made to the Government’s public consultation on e-scooter use.
Government to develop new national policy for island around Ireland
The Government is aiming to put together a new national policy for the development of the islands around Ireland.
The Tánaiste launched a public consultation process on what the policy should look like this afternoon.
It will be the first new cross-departmental policy for the islands in over two decades and the Government said it will “set a roadmap for the long-term sustainability and development of our offshore communities.”
Musk down €700m after Tesla Cybertruck launch
Elon Musk is down around €700m today after the launch of the company’s new electric pickup truck was marred by an “armour glass” window fail.
Shares in the firm fell after two of the new Cybertruck’s windows were smashed during a demonstration of how strong they are.
After the truck was unveiled in California, Mr Musk told the audience: “You want a truck that's really tough, not fake tough.”
