Five US troops have been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan.

Officials have described it as the biggest attack on NATO-led forces since the Taliban launched their "spring offensive" a week ago.

The explosion comes just four days after three British soldiers were killed in a similar incident in the neighbouring province of Helmand.

So far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
