Western and northern counties were set more snowfall last night, as the country faced a series of extreme weather warnings.

Met Eireann yesterday issued five warnings for areas around the country, with two status orange alerts in place, for gale force winds and up to eight centimetres of snow.

The more severe orange alerts are for western counties, while the rest of the country has been issued yellow alerts, with heavy rainfall expected in some areas and strong winds – but not quite as strong as in the west – expected in the east.
