Cork City Council has issued a flood warning for the next three days. It says the city centre is vulnerable to flood waters during high tide in these days.
It says the greatest risk of flooding will be at high tide at around 6:30am and 7pm between now and Sunday night.
A tidal surge and strong south to south-easterly winds are forecast. It says there is a danger of tidal flooding in the city.
It is possible that flooding may occur in the low lying areas, including in particular South Terrace, Trinity Bridge, Rutland Street, Cotter Street, Stable Lane, Union Quay, Morrisons Quay, Proby's Quay, Frenchs Quay, Crosses Green, Sharman Crawford Street, Wandesford Quay, Lavitts Quay, Kyrls Street and Kyrls Quay, Coal Quay and Lapps Quay.
Other areas at potential risk are South Mall, Oliver Plunkett Street, Pembroke Street, Princes Street, Marlborough Street, Cook Street, Winthrop Street, Kennedy Quay, Centre Park Road, Monahan's Road, and Georges Quay.
The Council has asked householders and businesses to take precautionary measures to protect their property.
Meanwhile Met Eireann has issued a weather warning for Munster, Leinster and Monaghan.
It says southern and eastern parts of Munster, many parts of Leinster and eastern parts of Ulster will accumulate 25 to 40 millimetres of rainfall during the day, with up to 50 millimetres possible in mountainous areas.
It also says that strong to gale force winds along the south coast may lead to some coastal flooding at times of high tide.
