Met Eireann is warning of strong winds and heavy rain for many parts of the country tonight.
Very high tides and on-shore gales are forecast with rainfall of between 20 to 25 millimetres in places.
It says this could lead to flooding on parts of the south and east coasts later tonight and tomorrow morning.
Heavy rain is expected to move into the southwest early tonight and will spread to most places overnight possibly falling as sleet on some northern hills.
Lowest temperatures expected are between 0 and 5 degrees with the coldest expected in the north-east.
Cork City issues warning
While Cork City Council has also issued a flood warning for possible tidal flooding in low-lying areas of the City Centre.
It says a tidal surge and strong south to south easterly winds are expected with tomorrow morning to be worst hit.
It says tidal flooding is possible in low-lying areas of the City Centre - including South Terrace, Trinity Bridge and Georges Quay.
It is urging householders and businesses to take precautionary measures to protect their property.
