Met Eireann has issued a flood warning with more heavy rains expected.
It says further rain will see a risk of local flooding especially in the East and North.
It expects winds to pick up today and tonight with gales in places and some severe gusts.
There is also a warning of strong gales between north-west and north-east in direction on all Irish Coastal Waters and on the Irish Sea.
It is forecasting scattered outbreaks of rain heavy in places especially in the East.
The day will stay cold and windy with highest temperatures 10 to 13 degrees in strong to gale force northerly winds.
While later tonight will be very windy with scattered outbreaks of rain, again heavy in parts of the East.
Lowest temperatures 6 to 9 degrees in strong to gale force north-easterly winds.
The Met service says there will be some sunny spells tomorrow developing as the rain in the East dies out but there will be scattered showers.
Cool and windy on Wednesday also with highest temperatures 12 to 15 degrees.
Meanwhile there have been severe weather warning issued across the UK.
Warning are in place there in North-West England, Wales, North-East England, the East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber as well as the West -Midlands.
The UK Met Office says further periods of heavy rain are likely to occur across parts of northern England and north and west Wales during much of today.
