The M11 motorway is to be closed in both directions due to severe flooding. Disruption is continuing on other roads as heavy rain continues to fall in the East and North.

AA Roadwatch is appealing to motorists to avoid the M50 at the Bray North interchange. There is also severe flooding on the M1 north-bound at Balbriggan.

In Cork the City Manager has denied the Council could have done more to prevent flooding in Blackpool where dozens of homes and businesses were damaged.

Meanwhile the Electricity Board in Northern Ireland is requesting assistance from the Republic and the UK. Over 40,000 homes are without power after heavy snow and high winds there overnight.

Irish Ferries is advising that due to adverse weather forecast on the Irish Sea today all of its Jonathan Swift fast craft sailings have been cancelled. All passengers booked on these sailings will be accommodated.

Those affected should contact Irish Ferries. All other Irish Ferries sailings are expected to sail to schedule.

In the North schools have been shut and transport is facing disruption there with another onslaught of snow, strong winds and flooding.
