The Foo Fighters have cancelled two gigs after their frontman literally broke a leg on stage in Sweden last night.

Dave Grohl went to jump on a ramp but missed and fell into the security area instead.

He was taken away for medical attention but returned bandaged up to finish the gig.

It seems the show won't go on though, as the Foo Fighters have been forced to pull out of two concerts - one at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands tomorrow, and an arena show in Switzerland on Monday.

He addressed the crowd after the accident: "I'm going to go to the hospital, I'm going to fix my leg, but then I'm coming back and we're going to play for you again."

"I'm so sorry," he added.

Grohl was carted off stage for medical attention after the tumble, and the 46-year-old returned on a stretcher around an hour later with his right leg bandaged and elevated.

Determined to give his fans a show, the rock star pledged that he would only call off the gig if ordered to by a doctor - and he worked the stage on crutches.

Soon after the set, an X-ray image was posted on the Foo Fighters' official Twitter page - bringing thousands of retweets and an outpouring of well wishes from fans.

The photo appears to show a clear fracture in the musician's leg.

Many fans used the hashtag #MyHero, a reference to a Foo Fighter's song, in tweets about the incident.

The band are due to play two nights at Wembley Stadium next weekend, and are set to headline Glastonbury on 26 June.

Foo Fighters headlined this year's concert at Slane in Co Meath last month.
