Dinky car fans around the world will be slightly green-eyed today as they read about Ford’s latest feat. The company in Dearborn, Michigan, created a “Hot Wheels” loop that exceeded 12 feet in height.

The record attempt took place in a three story atrium at the Ford Research and Innovation Centre as the manufacturer took part in the national “Take Your Child to Work Day”.

The idea for the loop came from a Ford dynamometer technician called Matt West. He said, “It started as part-fun, part-physics lesson with my son at home. We built one in our playroom, and then built a five-foot-tall loop in our backyard. When people at Ford heard what we were up to, everyone thought it would be a great way to get young people excited about science and engineering by trying to break the world record on Take Your Child to Work Day.”

The previous record was nine feet. Ford beat the record by making a Mustang Hot Wheels car complete a 12 foot, 6 inch loop.
