Hundreds of foreign students in the US have had their international student visas revoked in recent months.

The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) issued advice on Tuesday warning students on J1 visas to be cautious about participating in activism while on the programme.

Many students who have had their visas revoked had taken part in some form of pro-Palestinian activism.

Paris-based journalist and author Lara Marlowe told The Pat Kenny Show that ties between extreme right-wing populist movements around the world have strengthened since Trump’s inauguration.

“Anti-migration is huge, that’s kind of the foundation of it all,” she said.

“Also, I would say, very, very important is total disregard for the rule of law, for due process.

“The way Trump is deporting hundreds of people to El Salvador, the way he's rounding up foreign students who've protested against Israel's bombardment of Gaza and is deporting them, that's very, very typical of [far-right] movements.”

Ms Marlowe said the “future of Europe will be one of conflict”.
