The UK says it believes a British construction worker and six other hostages seized in Nigeria are likely to be dead.

Both Italy and Greece are also confirming the deaths of the workers, although there has been no word from the Nigerian authorities.

The hostages were seized last month by a breakaway Islamic group with links to al-Qaeda.
