Gardaí are carrying out a forensic examination at the scene of a fatal road accident in County Louth last night.

The incident happened on the Inner Relief Road at Marshes Lower in Dundalk between 9.20-and- 9.30pm.

The sole occupant of the car-a 43 year-old man- was seriously injured. He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was pronounced dead later.

The road is closed this morning and local diversions are also in place

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
