The search for the remains of a former Cistercian monk murdered and secretly buried by the IRA almost 43 years ago has begun in Co Meath.

Joe Lynskey was one of the so-called "Diisappeared" and was taken from west Belfast in August 1972.

He is believed to have been buried in Coghalstown near Wilkinstown.

The Independent Commission for the Location of Victim's Remains says it has good reason to believe that they are searching in the right area - and that his remains lie somewhere in the 15 acre site.

The scene of the work is close to the site where another of the Disappeared, Brendan Megraw, was found buried in October. He was 23 when he was abducted from Twinbrook in Belfast and killed by the IRA in 1978.

His wife, who was drugged during the kidnapping, was pregnant at the time of his disappearance.

Lead investigator John Hill has told LMFM that a geo-physical survey carried out in the past few months has helped pin-point areas of interest.
