Scientists claim the best nutritional way to alleviate your hangover is a beef and noodle broth.

The hidden treasure, yak-a-mein has been secretly curing party goers in New Orleans back to life the following morning for decades.

The Asian dish, traditionally known as Old Sober, is usually made up of salty beef, chicken or shrimp, soy sauce based broth, noodles, onions and a sliced hard boiled egg.

The University of California’s Professor Alyson Mitchell said Yak-a-mein has a nourishing and wholesome combination of salts, protein, carbohydrates and micronutrients to eliminate the next day headache.

Alyson went on to explain that the healing properties in the noodle dish are based on scientific fact:

  • Eggs contain an amino acid called cysteine that removes acetyldehyde from the body
  • The salts replace sodium and potassium lost in the urine due to the diuretic effect of alcohol
  • Vitamin B1 or Thiamine found in meat and fish may also help prevent the build up of glutarate, the substance linked to the classic hangover headache

A hangover is caused by consuming more alcohol that the human body can cope with.

15mls of pure alcohol is broken down per hour – that is the equivalent of one pint of beer, a 175ml glass of wine or 30mls of spirits.

If you drink more than the above in an hour, you will be guaranteed hangover symptoms including headaches, nausea, fatigue, body aches and weakness.
