The former governor of the Bank of England has won the race to become Canada's next Prime Minister.
59-year-old Mark Carney - whose grandparents hail from Mayo - was elected the new leader of the Liberal Party overnight.
He replaces Justin Trudeau, who resigned due to internal rifts and plunging popularity.
The new Prime Minister wasted no time in issuing a warning to Donald Trump.
“America is not Canada, and Canada never, ever will be part of America in any way, shape or advance,” he said.
