A former Dublin footballer has been found not guilty of assaulting an off-duty garda causing him harm during a match in March 2012.

Brendan McManamon (31) of Cyprus Downs in Templeogue was accused of breaking the jaw of his opponent while playing for St. Jude's GAA Club.

He denied the charge and claimed he reacted in self-defence after being hit in the groin.

After almost two hours of deliberations, the jury acquitted the footballer.

The incident happened during a league game between Brendan McManamon's St. Jude's side and Na Fianna on March 31st 2012.

The former Dublin footballer - who is a brother of All-Ireland winner Kevin McManamon - was accused of punching his opponent, Enda Ledwith.
