A former Dublin footballer has gone on trial accused of breaking the jaw of an opponent during a club game in March 2012.

Brendan McManamon, of Cyprus Downs in Templeogue, denies assault causing harm against former Longford player Enda Ledwith (34).

The alleged assault happened during a league game between Brendan McManamon's St. Jude's side and Na Fianna on March 31st 2012.

The former Dublin footballer, who is a brother of All-Ireland winner Kevin McManamon, is accused of punching his opponent Enda Ledwith.

Mr. Ledwith, a garda who has also played inter-county football for Longford, suffered a broken jaw.

Before swearing in a jury this morning Judge Patricia Ryan told the panel that anyone with any affiliation to either club should not hear the trial.

She also said anyone with any "strong views" on the GAA matches in general should not sit on the jury.

Some amateur footage of the game, which took place at Na Fianna's grounds in Glasnevin, will be shown to the jury in a trial that is due to take five days.
