A former member of the Defence Forces has died while fighting in Ukraine.
The man was in his 20s, had served as a soldier in the Army and was from Newbridge in County Kildare.
He died last Thursday while retreating from an area of Ukraine which had come under attack from Russian forces.
A rising death toll
His death likely makes him the second Irishman to die in Ukraine in only a month.
In August, 20-year-old Alex Ryzhuk was serving on the frontline with the Ukrainian Armed Forces when he was reportedly hit by a Russian shell.
The Dubliner, whose parents are from Ukraine, is now missing and presumed dead.
