A former convent that served as an orphanage and Magdalene Laundry in Cork has been gutted by fire.
The blaze broke out at the derelict Good Shepard Convent in Sunday’s Well at around 7:30am this morning.
The building had been bought by a developer to convert into apartments before the property crash.
The building was unoccupied at the time.
Appeal for witnesses
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
It is not yet clear how the fire started and the Gardaí are awaiting a report from the Fire Service before taking action.
Garda Superintendent Con Cadogan says it is the 2nd fire at the former convent in recent years.
