Steve Bannon, a former senior adviser of Donald Trump, has been arrested and charged with fraud in the US.
Prosecutors in New York say Mr Bannon and three others are accused of defrauding "hundreds of thousands of donors" who contributed to a crowdfunding campaign called 'We Build The Wall'.
The fund was aimed at raising funds to go towards President Trump's proposed border wall with Mexico, with more than $25 million (€21 million) raised in donations.
It's now alleged they didn't use 100% of the money for construction like they promised.
Acting US Attorney Audrey Strauss said: "As alleged, the defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors, capitalising on their interest in funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars, under the false pretense that all of that money would be spent on construction.
"While repeatedly assuring donors that Brian Kolfage, the founder and public face of We Build the Wall, would not be paid a cent, the defendants secretly schemed to pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to Kolfage, which he used to fund his lavish lifestyle."
66-year-old Mr Bannon served as President Trump's chief strategist in the early months of the administration, having played a key role in the Trump election campaign.
He was previously associated with the far-right website Breitbart News, as well as the controversial data firm Cambridge Analytica.
