One man has died and two men have been injured in a single vehicle collision involving a stolen taxi in Dublin.

One man died at the scene, while a second man is in a critical condition at the Mater hospital, and the third man received minor injuries.

The taxi had been taken from its owner prior to the collision.

The North Wall Quay which was closed for much of the day has re-opened at the Convention Centre following the crash.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was on North Wall Quay between 2am and 3am, to contact Store Street Garda Station.

This latest death brings to four the number of people killed on the roads this weekend.

Meanwhile, the road safety authority has reiterated its message to motorists this weekend to be safe on the roads.

115 people have been killed on the roads this year to date  - thats up from 105 last year.

A high volume of cars is expected on the roads tonight as the bank holiday weekend draws to a close - AA roadwatch is warning all road-users to slow down and be extra vigilant on their way home.
