French President Francois Hollande has raised his country's terror threat level after at least 100 rebels were killed in air strikes in Mali.

President Hollande said he was respondeding to the possible risk of Islamist attack.

One French pilot has been killed in the military action and hundreds of French soldiers have been deployed in the West African country.
