A fresh arrest warrant has been issued for a man who escaped from prison in June last year with over 4 years left to serve on his sentence.
John McDonagh of Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot in Dublin was serving a 5-year term in Loughran House Prison for several offences including possession of a shotgun.
Mr. McDonagh had been imprisoned at the low-security facility in Cavan for about 6 months at the time of his escape in June last year.
The 47-year-old was sentenced to 5 years having pleaded guilty to possession of a shotgun and ammunition in Ballyfermot in 2009.
He also admitted participating in a break-in in Inchicore in August 2009 and assaulting a neighbour with a shovel in 2001.
After that unprovoked assault which left his neighbour with a collapsed lung John McDonagh fled to England but was later caught.
He has 16 previous convictions.
Today a renewed arrest warrant was issued for his capture following an application by the Chief State’s Solicitors Office.
