Met Éireann has issue a Status Yellow rainfall warning for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford.

It is due to remain in place from 8am this morning until 6am tomorrow.

The forecaster said there will be pulses of heavy rain at time with some spot flooding.

Between 25 and 30mm of rain is expected.

TODAY

Rain will become widespread across Munster and Leinster this morning.

It will be heavy and possibly thundery in some southern coastal counties, with some spot flooding.

Early frost and mist elsewhere, soon clearing and becoming cloudy with some light rain developing in places.

A cold day, with highs of just 6C to 9C.

Light variable breezes at first, becoming moderate northerly later.

TONIGHT

Cloudy and wet over east Leinster and much of Munster, with further heavy rain at times in many coastal areas.

Cold and mostly dry elsewhere, with some frost and mist in parts of Ulster and north Connacht.

Lowest temperatures of 0C to 4C.
