A group of Father Ted lookalikes are hosting a ‘Lovely Girls’ contest and other activities at Electric Picnic.
Ted, Dougal, Jack and the rest of the gang are being honoured at the ‘Craggy Island Craic Shack’ at this year’s Stradbally festival.
Stationed at the festival’s trailer park, the group have grabbed the attention of many festivalgoers with their impeccable costumes and Father Ted-themed activities.
John O’Donnell, dressed as Graham Norton’s Father Noel Furlong, told Newstalk he and his friends are “big fans” of the show and wanted to bring it to Electric Picnic.
Yesterday, the gang kept people entertained in the afternoon with a ‘Lovely Girls’ competition, inspired by one of Father Ted’s most iconic episodes.
About ten girls took part yesterday, according to John – with challenges including walking around cones to deliver a tray of tea to ‘Father Jack’.
A member of An Garda Síochána also took part in yesterday's competition, although she was not crowned the ‘Loveliest Girl’.
The trailer also hosted a penalty shoot-out against ‘Father Jack’ and a Riverdance party – with 40 people crowding inside the trailer to party.
John said they hosted a similar event at last year’s Electric Picnic – which got the attention of Joe Rooney, the original Father Damo.
The Craggy Island activities have really taken off this year, with people often stopping for photos with the group.
“Everyone's walking through, and all of a sudden they can hear the microphone and the music and the big crowds around,” he said.
“Obviously everyone loves the show and has great memories watching the show, so they've really taken it on.
“We've taken thousands of photos over the weekend, and we've really enjoyed it, and everyone else has too.”
The ‘Craggy Island Craic Shack’ is back in action again today from 1.30pm for any festivalgoers who want to make the pilgrimage.
