A GoFundMe raising funds in aid of the search operation for a missing Galway swimmer has passed €96,000.
The search for a woman in her 30s, named as Máire Úna Ní Fhátharta, who went missing on Galway shores on Tuesday has entered its fourth day.
Ms Ní Fhátharta was reported missing at approximately 1pm on Tuesday, when she did not turn up for work.
She was known to be a regular swimmer in the Silver Strand area, where a search continues.
On a GoFundMe post titled ‘Bring Máire Home’, family of the missing woman said they are “reaching out” with “heavy hearts” and “seeking support”.
“We want to assist the current volunteers that are on the water and on foot by doing as much as we can to help cover costs such as fuel for boats, search equipment, etc,” the post read.
“Any excess funds that are received will be donated to voluntary organisations that have been assisting us in this search.
“The current circumstances have shown an overwhelming sense of community and we can’t find the words to begin to thank everyone for their efforts so far.”
The family expressed their “deep gratitude” at the help they have received so far, saying “your kindness and support mean the world to us”.
Earlier this week, the body of Limerick musician Johnny Duhan was retrieved in the same area.
He went missing hours earlier on the same day as Ms Ni Fhatharta.
It has been said the two were not known to each other.
