Work is underway for the second phase of the Dublin City Transport Plan, which will see more roads become traffic-free.

One of the main upcoming changes is that it will no longer be possible to turn from Weston Row onto Pearse Street.

CEO of Dublin Town Richard Guiney told Newstalk Breakfast that this is a “more modest” change than what has been seen along the quays.

“In the context of where we’re at, 71% of the people who come to the city use public transport and I suppose making that more efficient will obviously yield more people into the city,” he said.

“I suppose from where we’re coming at it, we would like to see more plans in and around things like deliveries.

“So, in the first phase on the quays, the bus gate was originally proposed for 24-hours but it was a 12-hour programme.

“That allowed for the delivery of those HGV’s which arrived in the morning in Dublin port, etc.”

Mr Guiney said more plans for food businesses and access to services are needed.
