The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) has moved to distance itself from the controversy surrounding a rally last week in Co. Cavan in support of bankrupt businessman Sean Quinn.
The gathering in Ballyconnell was addressed by a number of senior GAA figures including Tyrone manager Mickey Harte, former Meath manager Seán Boylan, and player Colm O’Rourke.
In a statement this afternoon the GAA said it is a non-party political organisation whose individual members may decide to take positions on a range of issues in accordance with their own personal views.
But it said it would be inappropriate for the Association to become involved in matters outside its remit.
