The young woman who died after becoming unwell at a debs in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, last night has been named locally as Jessica Moore.
The Loughrea woman was brought to Portiuncula Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The coroner has been notified and investigations into the sudden death are ongoing.
The 19-year-old was a student in St Raphael’s College in Loughrea and was due to receive her Leaving Cert results tomorrow.
Local Fianna Fáil TD Anne Rabbitte says Galway's in shock.
"My constituents in the Loughrea and surrounding area are numbed and saddened by the news that broke this morning," she said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with her parents, her siblings and also her school friends."
