Fans of the HBO show will be brought around a number of different sites that have been used throughout the show’s three seasons thus far. With an extended visit to the Giant’s Causeway a highlight, the guided tour will also encompass stopovers in Ballycastle, Armoy (aka The Dark Hedges), Ballintroy (aka Lordsport Harbour / The Iron Islands) and other locations, including the caves that were the setting for one of season two’s most infamous sequences.

The day tour will last nine hours, and will have a guide who will be ‘up-to-date’ with news and ‘insider information’ about the TV show. A place on the tour will cost around €86.

Northern Ireland has been welcoming Game of Thrones tourists for a few years now, but this is the first major commercial tour being offered. An online itinerary has previously been devised for those willing to commit three days to a self-led tour of Northern Ireland’s various Westeros locations. The new tour can be booked online.

Although Northern Ireland and Belfast particularly have been used as bases of sorts for the Game of Thrones production team, filming has also taken place in numerous international locations. Viator will also be running a sister tour in Dubrovnik, which has served as double for King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms.

Film & television tours have proven extremely successful around the world, such as the Lord of the Rings tours offered throughout New Zealand.

Game of Thrones, based on a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, has two episodes left to broadcast in its 3rd season. Despite its high production budgets, it has proven a massive hit for HBO, with the new series having reached a peak audience of 5.5 million American viewers for the 6th episode of the latest series. Broadcast on Sky Atlantic in Ireland, it has also consistently been television’s most pirated programme.
