It is game over for the Playstation 2.

The Guardian has reported that Sony has decided to stop producing its popular 12-year-old console.

Playstation 2 sold 150 million units making it the most successful home games machine of all time.

Its successor the Playstation 3 - which was launched in 2006 - has sold about 70 million units to date.
