Gardai in Cork are appealing for information following a burglary at a house in Mitchelstown last week in which a man was shot.

Two other women were also in the house at the time.

At around 11pm on Thursday four masked and armed raiders entered the home of a 59-year-old man at Carrigane in Mitchelstown.

A number of shots were fired and the man sustained a minor gun shot wound to his leg during the incident. Two women also in their 50s were in the house at the time.

The occupants of the house were tied-up before the raiders left the scene with a small amount of cash along with a wine-coloured BMW.

The car has a partial registration number LB-10 and was later seen travelling on the M8 motorway.

The injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital where he received treatment for his injuries but has since been released.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Gardai in Cork on 025-84833 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800-666-111.
