Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a taxi hijacking in Naas overnight.

It happened shortly after 3.30am when the driver picked up a fare at Popular Square.

The taxi driver was forced out of the vehicle on the Sallins to Straffan Road and was put in the car-boot.

The hijackers then proceeded to drive to the Kill to Kilteel road adjacent to the N7.

The driver managed to free himself and the two raiders escaped on foot with a small amount of cash and his mobile phone.

Gardaí say both suspects were in their 30s, of slim build and spoke with Eastern European accents.
