Gardaí are renewing their appeal for information on the murder of Niall Mulvihill on the anniversary of his death.

He was fatally shot in Dublin city on this day 12 years ago.

At around 9:30pm on January 23rd 2003, Mr Mulvihill was driving from Upper Sheriff Street towards Seville Place in his red estate Mercedes taxi.

At Spencer Dock Bridge, a dark-coloured car pulled alongside him and both vehicles stopped.

A passenger got out of the dark vehicle, approached Mr Mulvihill's taxi and fired a number of shots at the victim from close range.

Mr Mulvihill put on his hazard lights and managed to drive up Seville Place on to the North Circular Road, until he was involved in a collision with a number of cars.

He was removed to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

He was reportedly known to gardaí for a number of years because of his involvement with gangland figures.

Gardaí at Store Street believe that there are people who have information which would assist them in their investigation. They are appealing for them to get in touch with them on 01-666-8000.
