A member of An Garda Síochána has appeared in court accused of dangerous driving and endangerment of life.

On 7th July 2021, 29-year-old Dean Maguire, 26-year-old Karl Freeman and 31-year-old Graham Taylor died instantly when they crashed during a high-speed car chase.

The three men, who were suspected of being in a mobile burglary gang, died when their BMW burst into flames following a head-on collision with a truck.

It happened between Citywest and Baldonnel in Dublin as they were driving on the wrong side of the N7, with Gardaí in pursuit.

Garda John Francis Ryan, of Tallaght Garda Station, is accused of endangerment of life and three counts of dangerous driving.

He appeared in court today, as per his summons, but when his case was called, the judge was informed there was no representative from the Office of the DPP.

The DPP has yet to give directions as to how she wishes to proceed with the case, which was adjourned until October.

Garda Ryan, whose address cannot be published, did not leave the courthouse through the normal exit.

Instead, he was escorted to a restricted area of the building.
