Gardaí have confirmed they are not treating the death of a toddler in Limerick yesterday as suspicious.

The 2-year-old boy was found at an apartment on Parnell Street in the city at around 4.30 yesterday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination, carried out this evening at Limerick University Hospital, has found that the toddler died from a viral infection that either travelled to his heart or brain.

Gardaí have described the death as a 'tragic accident'.
