A man has been arrested in connection with a serious stabbing in the north-side of Dublin two years ago. A 44-year-old woman was left fighting for her life after she was attacked at her home on Donaghmede Park.

The victim was home alone when emergency services arrived at the scene in the early hours of April 8th 2011. She was seriously injured and covered in blood after being repeatedly stabbed.

Paramedics from the Dublin Fire Brigade treated her at the scene before taking her to hospital where she remained in a critical condition for some time.

At the time neighbours spoke of a break-in at the woman's home the day before the attack.

And photos taken a few hours after the attack showed a blood splattered window at the front of the house was open - suggesting this was how her attacker fled or perhaps how she managed to raise the alarm.

The woman survived the attack and a result of further information obtained by the investigation team in Coolock, a man in his 30s was arrested in the city centre this morning.

He is being held at Coolock Garda Station.
