The Garda Commissioner says he has sought a report into an incident involving the Taoiseach and an off duty Garda in Co. Meath.
An exchange took place over the planned public sector pay cuts between the Taoiseach and an off-duty Garda on Monday afternoon. Enda Kenny was on the campaign trail in Ratoath village with Fine Gael Meath-East candidate Helen McEntee.
The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan has ordered a report into the confrontation. He says people are entitled to consult their politicians but he is looking into the incident to establish whether he needs to take any action.
Mr. Callinan is also criticising walkouts by four delegates at the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) conference.
4 Carlow-Kilkenny delegates walked out at the start of addresses at the AGSI conference in Sligo by the Justice Minister Alan Shatter and the Commissioner himself.
However the AGSI has distanced itself from the action as a step too far.
