Garda Dog Rex has discovered a handgun on a riverbank in Limerick city.
It comes after officers carried out a search near the riverbank at St Mary’s Park in the city at around 4:330pm yesterday.
During the search, they found cocaine worth €40,000, a shotgun and a small number of shotgun cartridges, all wrapped in plastic.
As officers continued the search, Garda Dog Rex let his handler know that there was something hidden underground near the bank.
Gardaí then found a handgun that was also wrapped in plastic.
The guns and drugs will now be sent on for forensic analysis.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
