A man has been arrested in connection with an assault on a Garda in Dublin last night.

It happened in the Fitzgibbon Street area of the city at 8pm yesterday evening.

The officer - a man in his 30s - was taken to hospital to have his injuries treated

He was able to leave hospital overnight.

A second Garda was also injured in the incident but did not require treatment.

A man and a woman, both aged in their 30s, were arrested and taken to Mountjoy Garda Station.

The woman has been released pending a file to the DPP.

The man remains in custody.
