Gardaí have launched an investigation after shots were fired at a patrol car in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
The shooting incident occurred in the Rossfield Avenue area of Tallaght shortly after 2.30am.
A marked Garda car containing members of the force, who were in uniform and unarmed, was on patrol in the area at the time.
During this patrol, they came across three men, one who had a handgun and one in possession of a baseball bat.
The man armed with the handgun discharged a number of shots towards the Garda patrol car and one of these shots struck the vehicle.
All three men then fled the scene.
No Gardaí were injured during this incident and a technical examination is set to take place this morning.
A Garda spokesperson said no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting incident and that their investigations are ongoing.
Gardaí in Tallaght are appealing to anyone who has any information or footage (including dash cam) in relation to the shooting to come forward.
