A former Garda has been jailed for six-years for sexually assaulting a woman three times after locking her into Aughrim Garda Station in Wicklow.
William Ryan, a 41-year-old married father-of-four, claimed what happened in the station in September 2020 was “fully consensual” but the jury did not believe him.
At Ryan’s sentencing today, the woman told the court she felt such shame afterwards - even though she had done no wrong - but is now taking back her power.
At trial, she gave evidence of going to Aughrim Garda Station, where Ryan was stationed at the time, because she had an issue with the seizure of a car.

She told the jury he locked her in and sexually assaulted her three times.
In her victim impact statement, the woman told the court that he had broken her twice; first, when he sexually assaulted and imprisoned her and again when she had to go through the ordeal of a trial.
Ryan, who has since retired from the force, was jailed today for six-years.
