A Garda has been suspended from duty as investigations continue into the death of a man in a suspected hit and run in County Louth.
The incident happened at 2.30am yesterday morning on the Rathmullen Road in Drogheda.
A man in his 40s was declared dead at the scene.
The incident does not involve either an official Garda vehicle or an on-duty Garda member.
According to Gardaí, the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene, but a vehicle of interest was later recovered and will undergo a technical and forensic examination.
Both Gardaí and the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has issued an appeal for witnesses of the crash to come forward.
They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone with dash-cam footage who was in the area at the time.
