Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a 48-year-old man died in hospital following an assault outside Colbert Train Station in Limerick on Good Friday.

Alan Bourke of St Mary's Park in Limerick was well known as a talented striker in the 1990s and played for the Republic of Ireland junior soccer team.

Superintendent Dermot O'Connor said they are particularly interested in any camera footage people might have:

“For any person or road-users who were in Parnell Street and nearby Lord Edward Street and Davis Street who have camera footage, including dash-cam, to make that footage available to our investigating team.”

No arrests have been made.
