Gardaí have asked anyone who witnessed a head on collision in Kells, Co. Meath to contact them.
The crash took place on the N52 at around 4.25pm on New Year’s Eve.
The driver of one car, a woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene; while her male passenger died whilst being transported to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.
The driver of the second car, also a woman in her 20s, was taken to Connolly Hospital with serious injuries - she was later pronounced dead by medics.
Three children in the second car were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda; the 12 year old boy is described as being in a serious condition, while the two baby girls are said to have sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Local TD Thomas Byrne tweeted:
“My deepest sympathies to the families of the bereaved and prayerful thoughts with the injured.”
The road has since reopened and anyone with information can contact Kells Garda Station on 046 9280820.
