Gardaí have appealed for anyone who witnessed Wednesday’s train crash in Sligo to contact them.
They are particularly interested in talking to witnesses who were on the train that arrived in Sligo from Dublin at 2pm that day or on the train to Dublin that left Sligo at 1pm.
Jessica McLoughlin, who was in her 40s, has been named locally as the woman who was killed on the train tracks at Knocks Park in Ballisodare.
Her niece, who is in her 20s, is being treated in Sligo University Hospital for broken bones.
Sligo Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry said the entire county was “shocked” by the incident.
“It’s a terrible loss to the community and obviously our sympathies are with the family of Jessica, her four children and the extended family and, of course, her niece who we wish well as she recovers,” he said.
There are three investigations currently underway and Deputy MacSharry said he expected they would be carried out “expeditiously and quickly.”
